About this spot
People visit Mount Diablo State Park for many different reasons. Some drive to the summit (located at 3,849’) to enjoy the incredible views on a clear day, while others enjoy watching the sunset on a warm summer night. With more than 160 miles of trails and fire roads, hikers, mountain bicyclists, trail runners, and equestrians can spend days exploring the 20,000+ acre park. The scenic and challenging roadways are a destination for road bicyclists from the surrounding communities. Due to the elevation change from the base of the park to the summit, layered clothing is recommended year-round. Fire restrictions occur in late spring through the fall; burning charcoal in provided fire pits is usually allowed unless a Red Flag Warning for the East Bay Hills has been issued. The park boundary gates are closed 30 minutes after sunset and reopen by 8 a.m. the following morning.
